Boss Babes don’t kiss frogs – we EAT frogs!
Okay, literally that’s super gross. I don’t even want to think about the potential risks that entails! However, eating the frog is another way of saying “getting shit done.” Brian Tracy wrote a book on this. I recommend if you need some more tips to stomaching your frogs.
Every day you have a to-do list. If not, you should. Many days, there’s that one big item you know you have to finish but you don’t want to because you know it will be difficult and take more time and effort than everything else on the to-do list. You check off all the easy tasks first. You might even make up tasks just to have that sense of accomplishment that comes from a check mark.
However, that is a bad habit you’re going to eradicate starting right now.
That hardest task of the day? Consider that the FROG. Don’t procrastinate, eat that frog first thing in the morning. Make it the first thing you get done in the day. That way, the most important task will be done with. And, you’re more likely to be more efficient and successful if you get it done first, the right way. This will lead to so much more time for extra goals to be accomplished.
A couple of tips on digesting frogs:
1. Cut Your Frog Up
Sometimes it’s best to eat a couple of smaller frogs. Split up your work so that it’s less daunting. If you have one big goal, that’s Gucci! Just divide the goal into approachable tasks so that you can add them to your to-do list.
2. Make sure that you aren’t eating a frog while simultaneously trying to drink a porcupine.
Focus your time on energy one ONE lone task at a time and avoid multitasking. Efficiency equals time, and Boss Babes can never have enough time.
Yeah, that frog might be difficult to swallow at first, but once it’s done, it’s done. Let’s get to work.
Let’s be real.
Our phones are our lifelines.
Whether we want to admit it or not, they’re glued to our hands. You can literally do anything on them.
You can manage your personal, social, professional, and fantasy life all in one handheld object.
That’s power, baby.
However, sometimes things get messy.
You forget to run that important errand.
You found the best thing while surfing and lost it.
Your bank account is empty and you have no idea why.
Or worse, you downloaded Trivia Crack and can’t stop.
Download these three new apps that are free and have the ability to organize your life for good.
This task manager keeps you efficient and from wasting time. You compile your to-do list with time limits for each, and the app will notify you when to move on to the next task. Say buh-bye to that 5-minute social media break that turns into an hour social media binge. What BossBabe doesn’t love checking more off her list?
Stop screenshotting things you know you need to look up later. Store everything in your Pocket! Articles, videos, images, and more. You can also add a Pocket button to your laptop or tablet. You can even save directly from Twitter. Our phone photo albums are like the black hole we call our purse. It’s time to organize, ladies.
Keep track of your spending in a nonjudgmental way (looking at you Mint!). You can categorize your spending from groceries to clothing, and you can also add your own categories. The simple design helps you budget and plan ahead. Make that bank, girl.
New Year Resolutions. Is there a designated place to store these resolutions? Each December I’m focused on resolutions for the New Year, but I can’t even remember if I kept my old resolutions. Either way, whether you’re trying to lose weight or trying to build your empire, every Boss Babe needs to resolve to do these three things:
1. Embrace And Celebrate You
Boss Babes tend to be our own worst critics. Learn to embrace every part of you, for better or for worse. They are what make you YOU. There’s only so much you can change about yourself, so you may as well own each and every quirk about you. But don’t just own it, celebrate it. Treat yourself often because you deserve it. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life and forget that you need me-time, but you take that time and enjoy it. Whether it’s a spa day, going on a run, or cuddling up with a good book, do what makes you feel fierce. You are fierce, so you may as well feel like it.
2. Learn When To Say No And When To Say Yes
I often say no too much to the things I should be accepting, and too often say yes to the things I should be turning down. I try to update a list of my priorities each week: short-term and long-term. Remind yourself of your priorities and remember that you can’t say yes to everything, but you should say no to some things. #BOSSBABES have #werk to do.
3. Surround Yourself With Other #BOSSBABES
You are your best when you are supported by the best. Cut out toxic people from your life (babes or dudes) and only keep positive-minded people like yourself in your life. And, make sure you’re spending time with your closest babes. You need girl time, and they need you. Being surrounded by other boss babes keeps you and your girls as fierce as possible. 2015 is going to be the year of fierceness, are you ready?
Holidays. You know what that means. Being around all of your family and not-so-loved ones from back home. They all ask how you’re doing: education, career, love life – all of the things you don’t care to discuss with basics who don’t understand the mindset of a boss babe.
“How do you plan to begin your career once you graduate?” is my favorite question to receive. Oh please, honey, I have already begun. Forget a 5-year plan. Ask me what I’m doing today. Ask what I’m doing tomorrow. Trust me, I’m doing more in the next month than you could plan to do in the next year. But, of course, you can’t tell the basics that. They don’t have the#BOSSBABE mentality. There’s a reason they are not in the same position as you. So how does a boss babe respond?
Well, here’s two things you shouldn’t do do:
1. Explain yourself.
They don’t care. They’re selfish and probably not even paying that much attention. If anything, they’re probably hoping they’re doing better than you. Spare them the details and avoid wasting your time.
2. Be ashamed of your not-so-average career path.
Entrepreneurship ain’t easy. It’s difficult, chaotic, and don’t try to underestimate the hard work you’ve put in to your work.
Now, here’s two things you should do:
1. Keep it simple.
Highlight the key focuses of the projects you’re currently working on. A boss babe’s to-do list is changing constantly and is forever long. Your current projects are the main subjects on your mind, anyway.
2.Leave a little to the imagination.
You could tell the basics how successful you will be one day, or, they could see your success firsthand in the near future. And how rewarding is that?
‘Tis the season to be jolly, and ‘tis the season to werk. Boss babes don’t take holidays like the average person. But, we humor the 9-5 folks by attending holiday parties and, of course, scheming to make the most out of them. Here are 8 ways to make the most out of festive merrymaking:
1. Dress to Impress
Duh. When don’t you? Even if it’s an ugly-Christmas-sweater party, make sure your outfit is on point. Don’t be too flashy and don’t show too much skin, but don’t turn down the glam. Think about what your colleagues will be wearing and dress one level up from that. Think black or gemstone colors with no heels greater than 4 inches. Don’t forget a little extra lipstick!
2. Go Solo
Or if you’re going with a friend, make sure you aren’t stuck to their side the whole time. The whole point of netwerking is reaching out and meeting new people, so make yourself available to do so. Be confident, and make the rounds around the party so you can netwerk at max capacity.
3. Make Yourself Remembered
Introduce yourself with a big smile and a firm handshake. You don’t want to be handing out business cards like Jello shots, but they are good to have on hand. Be nothing but kind and light-hearted. This is a festive shindig after all, so have fun in a way that will make people want to be around you again in the future.
People love to talk about themselves, so let them. Open your ears and show that you are interested in what they have to say. If you want to make connections, this will make people want to connect with you. Plus, as a boss babe, you know there is ALWAYS something new to learn.
5. Avoid Touchy Subjects
Now is not the time to discuss opinions on the U.S. Torture Report, Ferguson, ISIS, religion, politics, or anything else that would possibly upset someone or create negative vibes. If someone else brings it up, stay neutral and subtly change the subject. You don’t want to be a part of any debates, at least not while Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas” is jamming in the background.
6. Eat First, Drink Lightly
Of course there are going to be lots of delish treats and yummies at the party. Possibly ones that are Insta-worthy. And free champagne. And your favorite macaroons. But do your best to say no. Eat a meal before you arrive so that you aren’t famished in front of the cookie table. As tempting as the bubbly seems, it is best to sip. You’re werking, remember? If you need to, hit up your favorite dessert place after to treat yourself for being so boss. You just don’t want to be drunkenly gorging a bacon-wrapped weenie in front of that CEO.
7. Be Thankful, and Follow Up
Make sure you thank the hostess for inviting you to the lovely gathering, even if you couldn’t wait to leave. Afterwards, follow up with any connections you may have made. By following up within 24 hours, they are more likely to remember you and put a face to your name and email. Keep that connection going!
8. Just Go!
It’s cold. It’s snowy. Netflix and sweatpants sound way better than going to that party, but get yourself up and go. Make the effort and reap the rewards later. You won’t regret it.
